Miss: I'm gonna have to rewatch the first movie because I don't recall Stacker Pentecost having a son. Mainly because the only child he’s ever interacted with was Mako Mori. So basically Jake Pentecost was lazily retconed into existence because fuck it.
Hit: Apparently a smaller Jaeger doesn’t require a co-pilot, interesting contrast from the actual sized Jaeger.
Miss: So building/piloting Jaegers is deemed illegal by the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, bummer.
Hit: Mako, Newt and Gottlieb are in the movie.
Miss: Yet Raleigh and Ops are nowhere to be found nor mentioned.
Miss: The movie establishes Drone Jaegers and right away I have a suspicion of bad shit's about to happen.
Miss: Cadet Blonde Bitch’s sole character trait is being a blonde bitch. And I’m sure there’s a reason for her being a blonde bitch it’s just the movie didn’t put in enough fucks to make me care.
Miss: Also Cadet Blonde Bitch is Russian? The married couple from the first movie were more Russian than her.
Miss: Also, also the other cadets are rather forgettable compare to the Jaeger pilots from the first movie.
Hit: First movie gave us Giant Mechs vs Kaiju fights; Giant Mechs fighting each other was inevitable.
Miss: Mako is dead and that’s bullshit.
Miss: Newt has a romantic bond with a Kaiju brain….creeppppppppy.
Miss: Amara’s backstory is copied and pasted from Mako’s and as Deadpool said it best that’s just lazy writing.
Miss: Also there's a prequel webcomic of Pacific Rim Uprising, apparently. With the story revolving around Amara which begs the question what was the point of this webcomic when they could've just incorporate her backstory and development into the movie? Would've polished Amara's character a lot better, just saying.
Miss: Also, also it really doesn't help that I've never heard of the prequel webcomic until AFTER the film was out.
Miss: And other thing they could've made Amara the main protagonist of the movie rather than throwing in some random character that never existence from the first movie.
Hit/Miss: The Drone Jaegers turn out to be Kaiju hybrids. Wait a minute….giant bio-machine mechs…. Someone on the writing team is a hardcore Neon Genesis Evangelion fan and speaking of which…
Hit/Miss: Suddenly I’m getting Neon Genesis Evangelion flashbacks.
Miss: Turns out Newt created the Jaeger-Kaijus and he’s evil. Why? I mean the movie explains why, but just why?
Miss: I’m glad the movie proved me wrong that Shao Industries are the bad guys. However, obvious red herrings are obvious.
Hit: Ah Japan, the go to place for monster attacks/monster fights. Don’t ever change Japan, don’t ever change.
Hit: GUNDAM STATUE!!!
